Support area's homeless veterans with walk, donations on May 17

The Sumter VA Clinic is inviting the community to come walk or roll 1.2 miles to encourage healthy living and support the area's homeless veterans.

The event will be held Friday, May 17, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sumter clinic, 245 Bultman Drive.

Anyone who would like to can also bring donations for homeless veterans, but a donation isn't required to participate in the 2K.

According to a news release about the event, donations that are suggested include:

- Men's boxers of all sizes

- Regular T-shirts for men in all sizes (not undershirts)

- Men's shorts in all sizes

- Lightweight jackets of all sizes

- Queen size sheet sets

- Queen size blankets

- Standard size pillows

- Flatware sets

- Towels (bath, hand towels and washcloths)

- Mops and mop buckets

- Cleaning supplies

- Detergent

- Brooms

- Dust pans

- Garbage containers (13 gallon)

- 13-gallon garbage bags

- Toilet brush with caddy

- Dish drying rack sets

- Sponges with scrub side

- Toasters

- 8-12-cup coffee maker

Full-size personal care

- Soap

- Toothbrush and paste

- Deodorant

- Razors

- Shaving cream
